Weekend in London

April 5-7, 2019

Tea time:

I had to try the most well-known British pastime when I was in London this weekend, so I went to Mr. Frogg's Residence on Saturday for afternoon tea with my old roommates from last semester at Vandy. This place was the BEST. The food was pretty good, but there were 3 huge slices of cake and 3 finger sandwiches that made it a little too heavy on dessert in my opinion. The entertainment and overall experience of Mr. Frogg's are the main reason people should go here instead of the super popular Sketch Tea (the one with the pastel colors and egg shaped pods).

The 2 hour afternoon tea included a whole pot of "tipsy tea" and all the food on the menu, and the live music and magic tricks were just an added bonus. This place looked a lot more exciting and lively than a typical afternoon tea. There was a guy on the piano singing beautiful hit classics, like Mr. Brightside and Country Roads!!, during most of our tea. Then there was another guy doing insane magic tricks for different tables. I don't think that I would have had as much fun anywhere else, so 10/10 recommend the Froggs. (Also, it is one of the cheaper options that I found)

Tip: Book afternoon teas pretty early in advance because they fill up quickly

+ Mr. Frogg's is weekends only

Planning ahead:

If there was ever a time to plan things ahead of the time for a trip, London was probably it. A lot of the places we wanted to go to required reservations, even in the morning. Luckily, there are sometimes gaps between reservations and we were able to sit down and a few places will let you reserve the day of/before. It would've been a lot easier to reserve ahead of time though, some places were booked months in advance.

A few of the places that I went/wanted to go to are listed here!

  • Coppa Club Igloos (book super far ahead of time)

  • Barge House - Breakfast in Bread Bowls (one week in advance probably)

  • Any theater show (Try Today Tix for lotteries and cheaper tickets)

  • Any afternoon tea

  • London Eye - buy ahead to skip the lines

  • The Bletchley - immersive WWII bar

markets + other sites

My favorite part about London are all the outdoor markets around the city. The best one, in my opinion, is Camden Town which is kinda has like a punk rock, hipster type of look to the street if that makes sense? (see pic for reference) But you can find food, souvenirs, jewelry, art, and basically anything here.
