CopenHot

Hot Tub Boat:

Apparently you can rent a hot tub or sailing hot tub boat through a place called CopenHot. So naturally I had to do one during my big stay-in-Copenhagen weekend.

This weekend was also my 21st birthday. Since turning 21 isn't that special in Europe, I still wanted to do something with my friends that also reminded me of celebrating birthdays back at school in Nashville. In Nashville, people rent these buses called Honky Tonk buses that drive down Broadway and other popular city streets during the night. I thought the sailing hot tub boat seemed like a Danish version of a Nashville Honky Tonk Bus. Another typical Nashville birthday activity is going to dinner at Bartaco. The Danish version of Bartaco that we went to for dinner was actually called Barburrito (so basically the same).

Sailing around the harbor for 1 hour in a hot tub was so fun! They even included marshmallows to roast on the fire that heated the water in the boat (sad it wasn't snobrød, the Danish version of s'mores though). If you're looking for a warm activity in Copenhagen during the colder months of the year, I recommend looking into renting a Copenhot hot tub! On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays they have HotDays where anyone can visit the stationary hot tubs for 300 dkk. There are also saunas and private hot tubs to rent.

Nyhavn Canal + Ice Cream

Best Touristy Sites:

This weekend I also had a friend visit for the first time. My roommate from last semester flew in from Paris, and it was so fun to show her all of the places I had discovered or have yet to see myself. Sadly a few of the places we tried to go were closed, but we still had a weekend filled with Copenhagen sites.

First, we went to Nyhavn Canal and picked up some waffles and ice cream to munch on while we walked along the water. Then, we walked from the Canal to DIS to see where the classroom buildings were in the city center and to walk along Strøget street to pick up souvenirs and view the shops. We ended the day at La Glace for come coffee and a slice of cake. My RC suitemates actually won a giant gift card for La Glace ~the oldest confectionary in Denmark~ during the first weekend scavenger hunt hosted by our SRA, and we spent it all on a giant birthday cake for all of us who had birthdays in February. (See pic of fancy cake below).

On Sunday, we saw more sights around the city. We started off struggling to find the Little Mermaid Statue. I have never been there before, so it was nice to cross off another item on my must-do list of Copenhagen activities. The statue is a bronze statue by Edvard Eriksen and is based on the fairy tale of the same name by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. After that we went back to Nørreport to see the University of Copenhagen Botanical Gardens. It was 3:30, so we thought we would have enough time to walk through the Palm House quickly, but apparently ticket sales close 30 minutes before closing. So we tried to find the tower that had the famous view of Copenhagen. The Church of Our Savior is the building with winding exterior tower staircase that goes all the way to the top. BUT this was also closed until February 22nd. By the time we figured this out, it was almost time for my friend to catch her flight so we stopped by a Joe and The Juice for an afternoon drink.

Even though we didn't get to see the Botanical Garden or the view of the city, this weekend celebrating with my friends was super fun.
